Chasing Dreams

In 2009, I thought I was on my way to having a thriving catering and party planning business. And then, cancer. My recovery was difficult and my family needed everything I could give, so I put that dream away and set out to become the best homeschooling momma I could be. The years flew by and the dream I had got tucked far away where it couldn’t bother my day to day life.
We moved to our homestead in 2013 and I discovered a deep love of gardening and putting up my own food. After 6 years of working from home and homeschooling, I returned to full-time nursing in 2015. With so much to juggle, there hasn’t really been a lot of time to dream. I figured my catering days were just a memory.
The past couple of years have been really hard for everyone. Our family is no exception. We’ve experienced serious illness, a lost job, and discrimination. The whole world has had to acknowledge that life is fragile and fleeting. That reality settles hard on my middle aged heart.
About six months ago, on two separate occasions, I had conversations with each of my children. Now that they are older, we often talk about heavier topics.
“What would you do if you could do anything?” they both asked.
My answer was Legacy Homestead- not specifically, of course, but the basic idea. I told them about a homestead with tons of gardens and an old farmhouse. I described a venue where small dinners and parties could be held in the farmhouse and big dinners and parties could be held in the barn. I talked about seasonal meals and specially themed events. The more I talked, the more the dream came back to me. And then, to my surprise, each child, separately and apart from their sibling said….
“Let’s do it, Mom”
The rest is history, as they say. Once the dream was re-ignited, it would not be put out. The business has come together in a whirlwind of activity and work. It’s been amazing to see our friends and family get excited about our dream and the support has been tremendous. There’s still so much to do and a lot of things are still just dreams, but we’re on our way.
An actual property is some time away. For now, we offer personal chef services, event planning, and homestead bakery items. While we don’t have a homestead to invite you to yet, we can bring the homestead to you. We can’t wait to make something beautiful for you.

Your dreams and vision are taking flight. I believe in each of you and all plans for the future of Legacy Homestead KC.
